AN ACT CONCERNING MOTOR VEHICLE THEFTS COMMITTED BY 
JUVENILES. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That the general statutes be amended to provide that the Superior 1 
Court may issue an order to detain a child arrested for larceny of a motor 2 
vehicle in a detention center pending subsequent court hearings and a 3 
disposition if the court finds that there is probable cause to believe that 4 
the child has committed the acts alleged, notwithstanding the additional 5 
factors contained in subsection (e) of section 46b-133 of the general 6 
statutes; to provide that a court may consider the factors in said 7 
subsection (e) as a reason to release the child in its discretion, with or 8 
without conditions; to require the automatic transfer from the docket for 9 
juvenile matters to the regular criminal docket of the Superior Court the 10 
case of any child charged with larceny that involves a motor vehicle; and 11 
to provide that the court, in its discretion, may return the case back to 12 
juvenile court unless the child has two or more prior adjudications or 13

Statement of Purpose:   
To enable law enforcement and the criminal justice system to investigate 
and prosecute motor vehicle thefts committed by juveniles.
