AN ACT CONCERNING THE PENALTIES FOR PASSING A SCHOOL BUS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That (1) subsection (b) of section 14-279 of the general statutes be 1 amended to increase the penalty for passing a school bus to a one-2 thousand-dollar fine and sixty-day suspension of a motor vehicle 3 operator's license or nonresident operating privilege for a first offense 4 and a two-thousand-dollar fine and six-month suspension of a motor 5 vehicle operator's license or nonresident operating privilege for a 6 second or subsequent offense, and (2) subsection (e) of section 51-56a of 7 the general statutes be amended to remit fifty per cent of the fine 8 amounts received in respect to the violation of section 14-279 of the 9 general statutes to the local or regional school district in which the 10 violation occurred. 11 Statement of Purpose: To increase the penalties for passing a school bus and remit fifty per cent of the fine amounts received for passing a school bus to the local or regional school district in which the violation occurred.
