20	21		AN ACT CONCERNING JU DICIAL COMPENSATION.
21	22		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
22	23		Assembly convened:

24	25		Section 1. Section 51-47 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1
25	26		following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from passage): 2
26	27		(a) The judges of the Superior Court, judges of the Appellate Court 3
27	28		and judges of the Supreme Court shall receive annually salaries as 4
28	29		follows: 5
29	30		[(1) On and after July 1, 2014, (A) the Chief Justice of the Supreme 6
30	31		Court, one hundred ninety-four thousand seven hundred fifty-seven 7
31	32		dollars; (B) the Chief Court Administrator if a judge of the Supreme 8
32	33		Court, Appellate Court or Superior Court, one hundred eighty-seven 9
33	34		thousand one hundred forty-eight dollars; (C) each associate judge of 10
34	35		the Supreme Court, one hundred eighty thousand two hundred four 11
35	36		dollars; (D) the Chief Judge of the Appellate Court, one hundred 12

61	61		(3) On and after July 1, 2017, and prior to October 31, 2017, (A) the 32
62	62		Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, two hundred six thousand six 33
63	63		hundred seventeen dollars; (B) the Chief Court Administrator if a judge 34
64	64		of the Supreme Court, Appellate Court or Superior Court, one hundred 35

145	143		subsection (a) of this section, on and after July 1, 2015, a judge 104
146	144		designated as the administrative judge of the appellate system shall 105
147	145		receive one thousand one hundred forty-two dollars in additional 106
148	146		compensation, each Superior Court judge designated as the 107
149	147		administrative judge of a judicial district shall receive one thousand one 108
150	148		hundred forty-two dollars in additional compensation and each 109
151	149		Superior Court judge designated as the chief administrative judge for 110
152	150		facilities, administrative appeals, judicial marshal service or judge trial 111
153	151		referees or for the Family, Juvenile, Criminal or Civil Division of the 112
154	152		Superior Court shall receive one thousand one hundred forty-two 113

163	160		subsection (a) of this section, on and after July 1, 2017, and prior to 116
164	161		October 31, 2017, a judge designated as the administrative judge of the 117
165	162		appellate system shall receive one thousand one hundred seventy-seven 118
166	163		dollars in additional compensation, each Superior Court judge 119
167	164		designated as the administrative judge of a judicial district shall receive 120
168	165		one thousand one hundred seventy-seven dollars in additional 121
169	166		compensation and each Superior Court judge designated as the chief 122
170	167		administrative judge for facilities, administrative appeals, judicial 123
171	168		marshal service or judge trial referees or for the Family, Juvenile, 124
172	169		Criminal or Civil Division of the Superior Court shall receive one 125

185	182		Superior Court shall receive one thousand one hundred forty-two 138

209	205		compensation, each Superior Court judge designated as the 156

211	207		hundred thirty dollars in additional compensation and each Superior 158
212	208		Court judge designated as the chief administrative judge for facilities, 159
213	209		administrative appeals, judicial marshal service or judge trial referees or 160
214	210		for the Family, Juvenile, Criminal or Civil Division of the Superior Court 161
215	211		shall receive one thousand two hundred thirty dollars in additional 162
216	212		compensation. 163

225	221		(c) Each such judge shall be an elector and a resident of this state, 172
226	222		shall be a member of the bar of the state of Connecticut and shall not 173
227	223		engage in private practice, nor on or after July 1, 1985, be a member of 174
228	224		any board of directors or of any advisory board of any state bank and 175
229	225		trust company, state bank or savings and loan association, national 176
230	226		banking association or federal savings bank or savings and loan 177
231	227		association. Nothing in this subsection shall preclude a senior judge 178
232	228		from participating in any alternative dispute resolution program 179

240	235		(d) Each such judge, excluding any senior judge, who has completed 181
241	236		not less than ten years of service as a judge of either the Supreme Court, 182
242	237		the Appellate Court, or the Superior Court, or of any combination of 183
243	238		such courts, or of the Court of Common Pleas, the Juvenile Court or the 184
244	239		Circuit Court, or other state service or service as an elected officer of the 185
245	240		state, or any combination of such service, shall receive semiannual 186
246	241		longevity payments based on service as a judge of any or all of such six 187
247	242		courts, or other state service or service as an elected officer of the state, 188
248	243		or any combination of such service, completed as of the first day of July 189
249	244		and the first day of January of each year, as follows: 190
250	245		(1) A judge who has completed ten or more years but less than fifteen 191
251	246		years of service shall receive one-quarter of three per cent of the annual 192
252	247		salary payable under subsection (a) of this section. 193
253	248		(2) A judge who has completed fifteen or more years but less than 194
254	249		twenty years of service shall receive one-half of three per cent of the 195
255	250		annual salary payable under subsection (a) of this section. 196
256	251		(3) A judge who has completed twenty or more years but less than 197
257	252		twenty-five years of service shall receive three-quarters of three per cent 198
258	253		of the annual salary payable under subsection (a) of this section. 199
259	254		(4) A judge who has completed twenty-five or more years of service 200
260	255		shall receive three per cent of the annual salary payable under 201
261	256		subsection (a) of this section. 202
262	257		Sec. 2. Subsection (f) of section 52-434 of the general statutes is 203
263	258		repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from 204
264	259		passage): 205
265	260		(f) (1) Each judge trial referee shall receive, for acting as a referee or 206
266	261		as a single auditor or committee of any court or for performing duties 207
267	262		assigned by the Chief Court Administrator with the approval of the 208
268	263		Chief Justice, for each day the judge trial referee is so engaged, in 209
269	264		addition to the retirement salary: [(1) (A) On and after July 1, 2014, the 210
270	265		sum of two hundred forty-four dollars, (B) on and after July 1, 2015, the 211 Raised Bill No. 988

280		-	and (E) on] (A) (i) On and after July 1, 2019, the sum of two hundred 215
281		-	~~fifty-~~nine dollars, [;] and (ii) on and after July 1, 2021, the sum of two 216
282		-	~~hundred~~ seventy-one dollars; and [(2)] (B) expenses, including mileage. 217
283		-	~~Such~~ amounts shall be taxed by the court making the reference in the 218
284		-	~~same~~ manner as other court expenses. 219
285		-	(2) On July 1, 2022, and on July first of 2023 and 2024, each judge trial 220

295	289		Sec. 3. Subsection (h) of section 46b-231 of the general statutes is 230
296	290		repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from 231
