LCO No. 4684 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 1036 January Session, 2021 LCO No. 4684 Referred to Committee on EDUCATION Introduced by: (ED) AN ACT CONCERNING RE GIONAL COOPERATION A MONG SCHOOL DISTRICTS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. Section 10-33 of the general statutes is repealed and the 1 following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 2021): 2 Any local board of education which does not maintain a [high school] 3 school in which instruction is offered for grades kindergarten to twelve, 4 inclusive, or any combination of such grades, shall designate a [high] 5 school in another school district, approved by the State Board of 6 Education, as the school which any child under the jurisdiction of such 7 local board of education may attend, [who has completed an elementary 8 school course,] and such board of education shall pay to the local or 9 regional board of education for such other school district the tuition of 10 such child [residing with a parent or guardian in such school district 11 and attending such high school] attending or in order for such child to 12 attend school in such other school district. 13 Sec. 2. Subsection (j) of section 10-266aa of the general statutes is 14 repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective July 1, 15 Raised Bill No. 1036 LCO No. 4684 2 of 2 2021): 16 (j) Nothing in this section shall prohibit school districts from charging 17 tuition to other school districts [that do not have a high school] pursuant 18 to section 10-33, as amended by this act. 19 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 July 1, 2021 10-33 Sec. 2 July 1, 2021 10-266aa(j) Statement of Purpose: To allow a board of education to pay tuition to another school district for sending its elementary and middle school students to such other school district.
