TURCO, 27th Dist. REP. MUSHINSKY, 85th Dist. AN ACT CONCERNING THE HEALTH OF FIREFIGHTERS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to (1) add a presumption that a 1 firefighter's diagnosis of cancer arose out of and in the course of 2 employment for purposes of workers' compensation; and (2) create a 3 working group consisting of firefighters and members of the UConn 4 Health network to research and compile data on the following: (A) Rates 5 of breast and endocrine cancers in firefighters within the state compared 6 to firefighters in other states, (B) the prevalence of cancers in states that 7 ban certain flame retardants compared to Connecticut, (C) develop a 8 plan to phase out and ban the use of certain flame retardants, (D) 9 determine if certain safeguards or preventative care are recommended 10 for the prevention of breast or endocrine cancers, and (E) determine if 11 any additional safeguards are recommended for firefighters. 12 Proposed Bill No. 6369 LCO No. 2553 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To create a presumption that a firefighter's diagnosis of cancer arose out of and in the course employment and create a working group to study the health of and create preventative measures for firefighters.
