920 AN ACT CONCERNING CERTAIN HARVESTING OF HORSESHOE
1021 CRABS.
1122 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
1223 Assembly convened:

14-Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2023) (a) Notwithstanding the
15-provisions of title 26 of the general statutes, no person shall engage in
16-the hand-harvesting of horseshoe crabs or the eggs of horseshoe crabs
17-from the waters of this state.
18-(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection (a) of this section,
19-the Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection may
20-authorize the hand-harvesting of horseshoe crabs by permit for
21-educational or scientific purposes provided the commissioner
22-determines that such harvesting will not cause harm to the horseshoe
23-crab population in this state.
24-(c) Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be
25-fined twenty-five dollars for each specimen taken in violation of this
26-section.
27-(d) The Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection shall
28-enforce the provisions of this section.
