LCO No. 2094 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 309 February Session, 2024 LCO No. 2094 Referred to Committee on HUMAN SERVICES Introduced by: (HS) AN ACT CONCERNING A STUDY OF MEDICAL ASSISTANCE FOR CERTAIN LEGALLY PRESENT, OLDER NONCITIZENS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (Effective from passage) The Commissioner of Social Services, 1 in consultation with the executive director of the Office of Health 2 Strategy, shall study the feasibility, costs and benefits of providing 3 medical assistance to certain legally present, older noncitizens who 4 would have qualified for a program providing such assistance before 5 the program was closed to new applicants in 2011, pursuant to section 6 17b-257b of the general statutes. Not later than October 1, 2024, the 7 commissioner shall file a report, in accordance with the provisions of 8 section 11-4a of the general statutes, on the results of the study with the 9 joint standing committees of the General Assembly having cognizance 10 of matters relating to appropriations and the budgets of state agencies 11 and human services. 12 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 from passage New section Raised Bill No. 309 LCO No. 2094 2 of 2 Statement of Purpose: To study the feasibility of restoring a program providing state-funded medical assistance for assisted living and nursing facility care for certain noncitizens who are lawfully present.
