AN ACT INCREASING THE PENALTY FOR RECKLESS DRIVING. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That title 14 of the general statutes be amended to provide for a 1 
penalty schedule for reckless driving that mirrors the penalty schedule 2 
for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs or 3 
alcohol, including fines, periods of suspension for a motor vehicle 4 
operator's license or nonresident operating privilege, periods of 5 
incarceration and increased penalties for second, third and subsequent 6 
violations, except provisions involving the installation of ignition 7 
interlocking devices, and in lieu of a pretrial impaired driving 8 
intervention program, require an operator found guilty of reckless 9 
driving to successfully complete a course of not less than thirty clock 10 
hours of classroom instruction relative to motor vehicle operation and 11 
highway safety provided by a licensed drivers' school. 12 
Statement of Purpose:   
To increase the penalty for reckless driving and deter dangerous 
behavior.
