AN ACT CONCERNING POLICE ANIMALS AND DOGS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That (1) section 53-247 of the general statutes be amended to (A) 1 increase the penalty for intentionally injuring a police animal or dog in 2 a volunteer canine search and rescue team, and (B) establish a penalty 3 for annoying, teasing, tormenting or harassing a police animal that is 4 confined in a motor vehicle; and (2) the general statutes be amended to 5 (A) allow emergency medical services personnel to provide emergency 6 treatment and transportation to an injured police animal under certain 7 circumstances, and (B) establish a grant program to provide canine 8 officers with body armor. 9 Statement of Purpose: To protect police animals.
