AN ACT CONCERNING HUMAN RIGHTS REFEREES EMPLOYED BY THE COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That chapter 814c of the general statutes be amended to: (1) Require 1 a human rights referee to be an attorney admitted to practice law in 2 Connecticut for not less than ten years; (2) allow the presiding referee to 3 determine, in consultation with the parties, the place of any hearing, 4 hearing conference, status conference or settlement conference; (3) 5 require the Office of the Attorney General to represent the presiding 6 officer in any appeal of a final order by the Commission on Human 7 Rights and Opportunities; and (4) replace references to "human right 8 referee" with "human rights magistrate". 9 Statement of Purpose: To revise the employment qualifications and duties of human rights referees employed by the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
