AN ACT CONCERNING SECTION 504 PLANS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to (1) specify the role of school 1
counselors in meetings to establish a plan pursuant to Section 504 of the 2
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is to facilitate such meeting and not as a 3
decision maker, (2) require the Department of Education to collect and 4
share data concerning trends for Section 504 plans by school district and 5
school, and (3) establish a working group to study and review Section 6
504 plans to recommend best practices and statutory changes and 7
summarize the impacts of Section 504 plans. 8
Statement of Purpose:
To (1) specify the role of school counselors as facilitators in establishing
Section 504 plans, (2) require the Department of Education to collect and
share data related to Section 504 plans, and (3) establish a working
group to study Section 504 plan.
