1818 AN ACT CONCERNING THE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF
1919 PROBATE COURT JUDGES.
2020 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2121 Assembly convened:

2323 That chapter 801 of the general statutes be amended to provide that: 1
2424 (1) a Probate Court judge (A) shall devote full-time to the judge's judicial 2
2525 duties, and may not engage in the practice of law, nor be a partner, 3
2626 member or associate of a law firm; and (B) shall not act as an arbitrator, 4
2727 referee or compensated mediator nor engage in the conduct of any other 5
2828 profession or business that interferes with the performance of judicial 6
2929 duties; (2) the provisions of subdivision (1) of this section shall take 7
3030 effect January 5, 2027, except that for each Probate Court judge elected 8
3131 for a term that begins on or after January 5, 2027, and who continues to 9
3232 serve without a break in service, the provisions of subdivision (1) of this 10
3333 section shall take effect January 9, 2031. 11
3434 Statement of Purpose:
3535 To establish requirements applicable to Probate Court judges that
3636 eliminate potential conflicts of interest, enhance professionalism and
3737 conform with requirements applicable to other members of the
3838 judiciary.
