AN ACT RESTRICTING RESIDENCY OF REGISTERED SEX
OFFENDERS NEAR SCHOOLS AND DAY CARE FACILITIES.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to provide that a registered sex 1
offender who resides within one thousand feet of the real property 2
comprising a (1) public or private elementary or secondary school, or (2) 3
facility where child day care services, as defined in section 19a-77 of the 4
general statutes, are provided, shall be guilty of a class A misdemeanor, 5
except if (A) the person has established a residence within one thousand 6
feet of such property prior to the effective date of this act, or (B) the 7
school or facility is newly located on or after the effective date of this act 8
within one thousand feet of such person's residence. 9
Statement of Purpose:
To prohibit registered sex offenders from residing near schools or day
care facilities.
