AN ACT ESTABLISHING A STUDENT LOAN REPAYMENT PROGRAM 
FOR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS WORKING IN THE 
DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION. 
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General 
Assembly convened: 
 
That the sum of one million dollars be appropriated to the 1 
Department of Correction, from the General Fund, for each of the fiscal 2 
years ending June 30, 2026, and June 30, 2027, to establish a student loan 3 
repayment program for health care professionals working full-time in 4 
the Department of Correction, in which such professionals would be 5 
eligible to receive up to fifty thousand dollars in student loan 6 
repayment, to be distributed after a certain number of years of 7 
employment with the department as follows: (1) Five thousand dollars 8 
after the second year, (2) seven thousand five hundred dollars after the 9 
third year, (3) seven thousand five hundred dollars after the fourth year, 10 
(4) fifteen thousand dollars after the fifth year, and (5) fifteen thousand 11 
dollars after the sixth year.   12  Proposed Bill No.  19

Statement of Purpose:   
To recruit and retain health care providers to work within the state 
correctional system.
