1818 AN ACT REQUIRING A STUDY OF BACKGROUND CHECK ERRORS.
1919 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2020 Assembly convened:

2222 That the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit of the Department of 1
2323 Emergency Services and Public Protection be required to study errors 2
2424 made while conducting background checks, including checks that failed 3
2525 to identify a disqualifying conviction due to record lapses or other 4
2626 system inconsistencies, and submit a report of the results of such study 5
2727 to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having 6
2828 cognizance of matters relating to public safety by October 1, 2025. 7
2929 Statement of Purpose:
3030 To require the Special Licensing and Firearms Unit of the Department
3131 of Emergency Services and Public Protection to study and report on
3232 errors in the background check process and prevent issuing firearms
3333 permits in the future to individuals who have a conviction that
3434 disqualifies such person from holding such permit.
