1818 AN ACT CONCERNING THE REQUEST FOR PROOF OF AGE TO
1919 PURCHASE TOBACCO.
2020 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2121 Assembly convened:

2323 That section 53-344 of the general statutes be amended to provide an 1
2424 exemption to the requirement that a seller's agent or employee request 2
2525 that each person intending to purchase cigarettes or a tobacco product 3
2626 present a driver's license or identity card to establish that such person is 4
2727 twenty-one years of age or older if such person has previously presented 5
2828 to the agent or employee a driver's license or identity card to establish 6
2929 that such person is twenty-one years of age or older. 7
3030 Statement of Purpose:
3131 To reduce the burden on retailers by removing the requirement that an
3232 individual be required to produce proof of age each time the individual
3333 purchases tobacco if the retailer has previously reviewed such
3434 individual's identification and knows that the individual is twenty-one
3535 years of age or older.
