AN ACT CONCERNING THE REQUEST FOR PROOF OF AGE TO PURCHASE TOBACCO. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 53-344 of the general statutes be amended to provide an 1 exemption to the requirement that a seller's agent or employee request 2 that each person intending to purchase cigarettes or a tobacco product 3 present a driver's license or identity card to establish that such person is 4 twenty-one years of age or older if such person has previously presented 5 to the agent or employee a driver's license or identity card to establish 6 that such person is twenty-one years of age or older. 7 Statement of Purpose: To reduce the burden on retailers by removing the requirement that an individual be required to produce proof of age each time the individual purchases tobacco if the retailer has previously reviewed such individual's identification and knows that the individual is twenty-one years of age or older.
