AN ACT CONCERNING THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE MOTOR VEHICLE KNOWLEDGE TEST IN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES, THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL FOR MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATION AND THE USE OF A TRANSLATOR DURING THE ON -THE-ROAD SKILLS TEST. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That (1) subdivision (3) of subsection (d) of section 14-36 of the 1 general statutes be amended to require the written knowledge test for a 2 motor vehicle operator's license to be administered in additional 3 languages, including, but not limited to, Bengali, Haitian Creole, Hindi, 4 Nepalese, Vietnamese and Urdu; (2) section 14-38a of the general 5 statutes be amended to require the instruction manual for motor vehicle 6 operation to be available in such additional languages; and (3) section 7 14-36 of the general statutes be amended to permit non-English-8 speaking applicants for the on-the-road skills test to use the services of 9 a translator during such skills test. 10 Statement of Purpose: To (1) require the written knowledge test for a motor vehicle operator's license to be administered in additional languages; (2) require the Proposed Bill No. 498 LCO No. 106 2 of 2 instruction manual for motor vehicle operation to be available in such additional languages; and (3) permit a non-English-speaking applicant to use a translator during the on-the-road skills test.
