1818 AN ACT CONCERNING OVERSIGHT AND TRANSPARENCY IN THE
1919 PRESCRIPTION OF PSYCHOTROPIC DRUGS TO CHILDREN
2020 RECEIVING BENEFITS UNDER MEDICAID.
2121 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
2222 Assembly convened:

2424 That the general statutes be amended to (1) require a health care 1
2525 provider who is prescribing a psychotropic drug to a child receiving 2
2626 services under Medicaid to (A) provide the parent or guardian of such 3
2727 child with medication guides prepared by the federal Food and Drug 4
2828 Administration concerning such drug, and (B) educate the parent or 5
2929 guardian of such child regarding the risks and benefits of such drugs 6
3030 and inform such parent or guardian of any nondrug alternatives, (2) 7
3131 establish a robust, user-friendly system through which the parent, 8
3232 guardian or health care provider of a child taking a psychotropic drug 9
3333 can report any side effects of such drug that the child may be 10
3434 experiencing, and (3) require the implementation of regulatory 11
3535 measures and accountability standards for the Departments of Social 12
3636 Services and Public Health to ensure safe prescription practices with 13
