AN ACT REQUIRING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPILING A LIST OF READING ASSESSMENTS. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That section 10-14t of the general statutes be amended to replace the 1 Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success with the Department 2 of Education regarding the responsibility of compiling a list of reading 3 assessments that shall be used by local and regional boards of education 4 for the school year commencing July 1, 2025, and each school year 5 thereafter, to identify students in kindergarten to grade three, inclusive, 6 who are below proficiency in reading, provided any such reading 7 assessments include frequent screening and progress monitoring of 8 students. 9 Statement of Purpose: To replace the Center for Literacy Research and Reading Success with the Department of Education in compiling a list of reading assessments for boards of education to identify students in kindergarten to grade three, inclusive, who are below proficiency in reading, provided any Proposed Bill No. 874 LCO No. 2923 2 of 2 such reading assessments include frequent screening and progress monitoring of students.
