18	19		AN ACT AUTHORIZING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
19	20		PERSONNEL TO ADMINISTER GLUCAGON NASAL POWDER.
20	21		Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General
21	22		Assembly convened:

23	24		Section 1. (NEW) (Effective from passage) (a) As used in this section: 1
24	25		(1) "Emergency medical services personnel" means (A) any 2
25	26		emergency medical responder certified pursuant to sections 20-206ll 3
26	27		and 20-206mm of the general statutes, (B) any class of emergency 4
27	28		medical technician certified pursuant to sections 20-206ll and 20-206mm 5
28	29		of the general statutes, including, but not limited to, any advanced 6
29	30		emergency medical technician, and (C) any paramedic licensed 7
30	31		pursuant to sections 20-206ll and 20-206mm of the general statutes; and 8
31	32		(2) "Glucagon nasal powder" means a class of medications (A) 9
32	33		referred to as glycogenolytic agents that cause the liver to reduce stored 10
33	34		sugar to the blood and are intended for the treatment of severe 11
34	35		hypoglycemia in persons with diabetes who are treated with insulin, 12
35	36		and (B) administered intranasally. 13

41	44		in accordance with national standards recognized by the Commissioner 15
42	45		of Public Health, in the administration of glucagon nasal powder may 16
43	46		administer glucagon nasal powder when the use of glucagon is deemed 17
44	47		necessary by the emergency medical services personnel for the 18
45	48		treatment of a patient. All emergency medical services personnel shall 19
46	49		receive such training from an organization designated by the 20
47	50		commissioner. 21
48	51		(c) All licensed or certified ambulances may be equipped with 22
49	52		glucagon nasal powder to be administered as described in subsection 23
50	53		(b) of this section. 24
51	54		This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following
