LCO 4655 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 1324 January Session, 2025 LCO No. 4655 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH Introduced by: (PH) AN ACT AUTHORIZING EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES PERSONNEL TO ADMINISTER GLUCAGON NASAL POWDER. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (NEW) (Effective from passage) (a) As used in this section: 1 (1) "Emergency medical services personnel" means (A) any 2 emergency medical responder certified pursuant to sections 20-206ll 3 and 20-206mm of the general statutes, (B) any class of emergency 4 medical technician certified pursuant to sections 20-206ll and 20-206mm 5 of the general statutes, including, but not limited to, any advanced 6 emergency medical technician, and (C) any paramedic licensed 7 pursuant to sections 20-206ll and 20-206mm of the general statutes; and 8 (2) "Glucagon nasal powder" means a class of medications (A) 9 referred to as glycogenolytic agents that cause the liver to reduce stored 10 sugar to the blood and are intended for the treatment of severe 11 hypoglycemia in persons with diabetes who are treated with insulin, 12 and (B) administered intranasally. 13 (b) Any emergency medical services personnel who has been trained, 14 Raised Bill No. 1324 LCO 4655 2 of 2 in accordance with national standards recognized by the Commissioner 15 of Public Health, in the administration of glucagon nasal powder may 16 administer glucagon nasal powder when the use of glucagon is deemed 17 necessary by the emergency medical services personnel for the 18 treatment of a patient. All emergency medical services personnel shall 19 receive such training from an organization designated by the 20 commissioner. 21 (c) All licensed or certified ambulances may be equipped with 22 glucagon nasal powder to be administered as described in subsection 23 (b) of this section. 24 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Section 1 from passage New section PH Joint Favorable
