LCO No. 5132 1 of 2 General Assembly Raised Bill No. 1372 January Session, 2025 LCO No. 5132 Referred to Committee on PUBLIC HEALTH Introduced by: (PH) AN ACT CONCERNING MEDICAL DEVICE REPRESENTATIVES. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: Section 1. (NEW) (Effective October 1, 2025) A medical device 1 representative shall not provide technical or educational assistance 2 regarding any medical device during the preparation, conduct or 3 completion of a surgical procedure at a hospital, as defined in section 4 19a-490 of the general statutes, unless such medical device 5 representative has undergone credentialing and been issued credentials 6 by such hospital. For the purposes of this section, "credentialing" means 7 a hospital's process of assessing and validating the qualifications of a 8 person applying to be approved to provide treatment, care or services 9 in or for a hospital, and "medical device representative" means a 10 nonhospital employee authorized by a medical device company to 11 provide technical and educational assistance regarding medical devices 12 during the preparation, conduct or completion of surgical procedures. 13 This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections: Raised Bill No. 1372 LCO No. 5132 2 of 2 Section 1 October 1, 2025 New section Statement of Purpose: To require medical device representatives to undergo credentialing by hospitals.
