19- WHEREAS, Dr. Ellen M. Granberg will officially begin her service to the George

23- WHEREAS, President Granberg will preside over an institution that has fostered deep ties
24-to communities within the D.C. metro area that have endured for more than 2 centuries, maintaining good neighbor relations and open dialogue;
25- WHEREAS, President Granberg pledges to continue GW’s culture of public and
26-community service throughout all 8 wards of the District, including building upon a record 602,048 hours of community service logged this past year by the GW community;
27- WHEREAS, President Granberg affirms that the university will continue to prioritize
28-academic excellence and support scholastic partnerships throughout the District, such as those at School Without Walls, Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and MacArthur High School;
29- WHEREAS, President Granberg has already demonstrated her desire and commitment to
30-use her institution as a vehicle for social mobility, particularly within the District, and spur the university’s continued growth as a world- class research institution that contributes to the strength
31-and diversity of economic, cultural, and civic life of the D.C. metropolitan area for years to
32-come.
33- RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this
34-resolution be cited as the “George Washington University President Dr. Ellen M. Granberg
35-Inaugural Recognition Resolution of 2023.”

38-into our community and embraces her desire to contribute to the people and institutions
