14-To recognize and honor Dr. Grace Holloman Davis , on the occasion of her 100th birthday, for her
15-many years of service to the District as an educator and dedicated advocate of community

18-WHEREAS, Dr. Grace Holloman Davis was born in the District on November 8, 1923;
19-
20-WHEREAS, Dr. Davis’ father was the pastor of Second Street Baptist Church located on
21-3rd Street, NW, and where she is still an active member today;

23-WHEREAS, Dr. Davis received her Bachelor’s degree from Miner Teachers College, her
24-Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and her Doctor in Education (Ed.D) degree from
25-George Washington University;

27-WHEREAS, Dr. Davis was a mathematics teacher for several years at Shaw Junior High
28-School and Cardozo High School, later becoming the Director of Grants for the District of
29-Columbia Public Schools;

31-WHEREAS, Dr. Davis has also been active in community service with her Alpha Kappa
32-Alpha sorority for more than 80 years;

34-WHEREAS, at age 100, Dr. Davis continues her life-long presence and committed service
35-to her church, driving to Sunday morning worship service and providing volunteer service at her
36-church twice weekly for several hours;

38-WHEREAS, Dr. Davis provides exceptional support to the Southwest Waterfront Chapter
39-of the AARP, and has dedicated herself to the AARP ’s motto of “To Serve, Not To Be Served”;

42-WHEREAS, Dr. Davis celebrated her 100th birthday on November 8, 2023, with the
43-Southwest Waterfront Chapter of the AARP recognizing her at its November 15, 2023 Chapter
44-meeting.

51-resolution may be cited as the "Dr. Grace Holloman Davis 100th Birthday Recognition Resolution
52-of 2023".

54-Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Dr. Grace Holloman
55-Davis, on the occasion of her 100th birthday, for her many years of service to the District as an
56-educator and dedicated advocate of community service.

58-Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
