ENROLLED ORIGINAL 1 A CEREMONIAL RESOLUTION 26-14 IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA March 4, 2025 To honor and recognize Jayden Daniels for being named the 2025 Associated Press (AP) Offensive Rookie of the Year as the starting quarterback of the Washington Commanders. WHEREAS, Jayden Daniels, born on December 18, 2000, in San Bernardino, California; WHEREAS, Daniels played 3 seasons of college football at Arizona State University, where he emerged as a bright young star, throwing for 17 touchdowns and rushing for an additional 3 during his freshman year; WHEREAS, in 2022, Daniels transferred to Louisiana State University (LSU), where he continued to excel, culminating in a historic 2023 season in which he won the Heisman Trophy, becoming the third player in LSU history to receive this honor; WHEREAS, during the 2023 season at LSU, Daniels achieved remarkable statistics, including 3,812 passing yards, 1,134 rushing yards, and 50 touchdowns, leading the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in total yards; WHEREAS, he was selected second overall in the 2024 National F ootball League Draft by the Washington Commanders and was named the team's starting quarterback near the end of training camp; WHEREAS, in his rookie season with the Commanders, Daniels set an NFL rookie and team record with a 91.3% completion percentage on 23 attempts in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, amassing 293 total yards and three touchdowns, earning him NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors; WHEREAS, Daniels was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for September 2024, being the first Washington Commander to win it since Robert Griffin III in 2012; ENROLLED ORIGINAL 2 WHEREAS, during the 2024 regular season, Jayden Daniels completed 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards, threw 25 touchdowns, and rushed for 891 yards and 6 touchdowns, showcasing his dual-threat capabilities; WHEREAS, he became the third rookie in NFL history to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 600 yards in a season, as well as the fifth player and first rookie to have four games with a completion percentage of at least 80% in a season; WHEREAS, Daniels set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a season by a rookie quarterback and led the Commanders to their first playoff win since 2005 and first NFC Championship Game appearance since 1991. RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the “Jayden Daniels Recognition Resolution of 2025”. Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia recognizes and honors Jayden Daniels for his outstanding accomplishments in the National Football League as a member of the Washington Commanders, and we commend his dedication, perseverance, and contributions to the sport. . Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
