 SENATE BILL NO. 211 

   

 AN ACT TO ESTABLISH THE JAVELIN AS AN EVENT IN HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD. 

   

  WHEREAS, the javelin has historical roots in the Olympic Games of Ancient Greece; and   WHEREAS, the javelin is a recognized event within the rules and regulations found within the National Federations of State High School Associations; and   WHEREAS, according to the Wall Street Journal in July 2022, at least 22 states within the country have adopted the javelin as a throwing event within their high school track and field programs; and   WHEREAS, the NCAA has sponsored a javelin event since 1921 for men and 1982 for women; and   WHEREAS, the javelin throw can be practiced safely with appropriate safety precautions and rules, such as the use of a rubber tipped javelin.   NOW, THEREFORE:   BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:   Section 1. The Board of Directors for the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (Board) and the Track & Field Committee as a standing committee under the Board shall adopt regulations for the javelin as an approved event within DIAA sponsored track and field competitions.

 NOW, THEREFORE: 

 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE:
