An act relating to payments to prisoners upon release; 2
creating ss. 944.6125 and 951.31, F.S.; providing that 3
Florida releasees and county and municipal prisoners 4
who receive funds in the form of payment instruments 5
upon their release may not be charged a fee for 6
cashing the instruments at specified businesses; 7
providing an effective date. 8

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10

Section 1. Section 944.6125, Florida Statutes, is created 12
to read: 13
944.6125 Florida releasee; gate money. —A Florida releasee 14
who receives funds upon his or her release in the form of a 15
payment instrument may no t be charged a fee for cashing the 16
instrument at a money services business, as those terms are 17
defined in s. 560.103. 18
Section 2. Section 951.31, Florida Statutes, is created to 19
read: 20
951.31 Releasee gate money. —A county or municipal prisoner 21
who receives funds upon his or her release in the form of a 22
payment instrument may not be charged a fee for cashing the 23
instrument at a money services business, as those terms are 24
defined in s. 560.103. 25
