2626 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 13

2828 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (5) of section 15
2929 466.006, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 16
3030 466.006 Examination of dentists .— 17
3131 (5)(a) The practical examination required under subsection 18
3232 (4) is shall be the American Dental Licensing Examination 19
3333 developed by the American Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., or 20
3434 its successor entity, if any, provided the board finds that the 21
3535 successor entity's clinical examination complies with the 22
3636 provisions of this section, and must shall include, at a 23

9292 The department shall require a mandatory st andardization 55
9393 exercise for all examiners prior to each practical or clinical 56
9494 examination and shall retain for employment only those dentists 57
9595 who have substantially adhered to the standard of grading 58

9797 Section 2. Paragraphs ( c), (e), and (j) of subsection (2) 60
9898 of section 466.0065, Florida Statutes, are amended to read: 61
9999 466.0065 Regional licensure examinations. — 62
100100 (2) Each school of dentistry in this state which is 63
101101 accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American 64
102102 Dental Association or its successor agency may, upon written 65
103103 approval by the Board of Dentistry, offer regional licensure 66
104104 examinations only to dental students in the final year of a 67
105105 program at an approved dental school, if the board has approved 68
106106 the hosting school's written plan to comply with all of the 69
107107 following conditions: 70
108108 (c) The student must possess medical malpractice insurance 71
109109 in amounts not less than the amounts required to take the 72
110110 Florida licensure examinations. 73
111111 (e) Adequate arrangements, as defined by the regional 74
112112 examination body and as otherwise required by law, must be made, 75

126126 result of procedures performed during the clinical portion of 77
127127 the regional examination. The regional examination body must 78
128128 inform patients in writing of their right to followup care in 79
129129 advance of any procedures performed by a student. 80
130130 (j) The student's academic record must not include any 81
131131 evidence suggesting that the student poses an unreasonable risk 82
132132 to any live patients who are required for the clinical portion 83
133133 of the regional examination. In order to protect the health and 84
134134 safety of the public, the dental school may request additional 85
135135 information and documents pertaining to the candidate's mental 86
136136 and physical health in order to fully assess the candidate's 87
137137 fitness to engage in exercises involving a live patient. 88
138138 Section 3. Paragraph (b) of su bsection (4) of section 89
139139 466.007, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 90
140140 466.007 Examination of dental hygienists. — 91
141141 (4) Effective July 1, 2012, to be licensed as a dental 92
142142 hygienist in this state, an applicant must successfully complete 93
143143 the following: 94
144144 (b) A practical or clinical examination approved by the 95
145145 board. The examination shall be the Dental Hygiene Examination 96
146146 produced by the American Board of Dental Examiners, Inc., (ADEX) 97
147147 or its successor entity, if any, if the board finds that the 98
148148 successor entity's clinical examination meets or exceeds the 99
149149 provisions of this section. The board shall approve the ADEX 100

162162 Dental Hygiene Examination if the board has attained and 101
163163 continues to maintain representation on the ADEX House of 102
164164 Representatives, the ADEX Denta l Hygiene Examination Development 103
165165 Committee, and such other ADEX Dental Hygiene committees as the 104
166166 board deems appropriate through rulemaking to ensure that the 105
167167 standards established in this section are maintained 106
168168 organizationally. The ADEX Dental Hygiene E xamination or the 107
169169 examination produced by its successor entity is a comprehensive 108
170170 examination in which an applicant must demonstrate skills within 109
171171 the dental hygiene scope of practice on a manikin that has 110
172172 typodont teeth with simulated dentition and calcul us as approved 111
173173 by the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments live patient 112
174174 and any other components that the board deems necessary for the 113
175175 applicant to successfully demonstrate competency for the purpose 114
176176 of licensure. 115
177177 Section 4. Section 466.0075, Florida Statutes, is 116
178178 repealed. 117
179- Section 5. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 118
