A bill to be entitled 1 
An act relating to the Downtown Development Authority 2 
of the City of Fort Lauderdale, Broward County; 3 
amending chapter 2005 -346, Laws of Florida; removing a 4 
specified expiration date; providing for the transfer 5 
of assets from the Downtown Development Authority to 6 
the City of Fort Lauderdale upon the date of 7 
dissolution of the authority; providing an effective 8 
date. 9

 WHEREAS, the Downtown Development Autho rity of the City of 11 
Fort Lauderdale (DDA) was created by special act of the 12 
Legislature in 1965, and 13 
 WHEREAS, the DDA has been the driving force in the growth 14 
and progress of Downtown Fort Lauderdale for the past five  15 
decades, and 16 
 WHEREAS, the DDA has d edicated land and resources for such 17 
public amenities including the Broward Performing Arts Center, 18 
the Downtown Library, Museum of Science, and Huizenga Plaza 19 
Park, among many others, and 20 
 WHEREAS, the DDA has been active in providing input and 21 
solutions for such important ongoing issues such as 22 
transportation, affordable housing, community safety, and parks 23 
and public space improvements, and 24

 WHEREAS, the DDA is an important vehicle for representation 25 
and participation of the commercial property owners in Downtown 26 
Fort Lauderdale, and 27 
 WHEREAS, the Legislature has reviewed downtown development 28 
authorities and special districts on a periodic basis so that a 29 
separate expiration date is not needed given the important role 30 
the DDA provides in the community. 31 
 32 
Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 33 
 34 
 Section 1.  Section 15 of chapter 2005 -346, Laws of 35 
Florida, is amended to read: 36 
 Section 15.  Upon the date of dissolution of the authority 37 
pursuant to law On December 31, 2030 , this law shall expire and 38 
all assets of the authority shall on or before the that date of 39 
dissolution be transferred by the authority to the city. Any 40 
assets remaining in the hands of the authority on the date of 41 
dissolution December 31, 2030, shall automatically devo lve upon 42 
and become the property of the city. In the event there shall be 43 
any indebtedness outstanding against the authority, the city may 44 
continue to levy whatever portion shall be necessary of the tax 45 
authorized by this law to retire such indebtedness. 46 
 Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 47
