A resolution designating February 9, 2022, as "FSU 2
Day" in Florida. 3

WHEREAS, the Tallahassee campus of Florida State University 5
(FSU), founded in 1851, is the oldest continuous site of higher 6
education in Florida, and 7
WHEREAS, Florida State University is proud to be recognized 8
as a preeminent university by the State of Florida and as a 9
leader in education, research, student retention, and 10
graduation, and 11
WHEREAS, Florida State University is a nationally 12
recognized institution with many of its colleges and programs 13
ranked in the top 10 in the nation, and 14
WHEREAS, reaffirming its place in the top 20 for the third 15
consecutive year, Florida State University ranked number 19 16
among national public universities in the U.S. News and World 17
Report rankings in 2021, and 18
WHEREAS, in 2021, Florida State University was ranked 19
number five in best value among public universities and number 20
26 in Best Colleges for Veterans in the U.S. News and World 21
Report, and 22
WHEREAS, Florida State University has a four -year 23
graduation rate of 74 percent, making it the highest in the 24

state and placing the university in the top 10 among the 25
nation's public research institutions, and 26
WHEREAS, Florida State University was honored with a 27
national award by the Association of Public and Land -grant 28
Universities for the university's extensive efforts to eliminate 29
gaps by race, ethnicity, and income level, and 30
WHEREAS, Florida State University offer s graduate, 31
undergraduate, doctoral and professional degrees in 306 programs 32
within 18 independent colleges and schools, taught by a faculty 33
of 2,061 members, which has included National Academy of 34
Sciences members and 6 Nobel Laureates, and has created a 35
student-faculty ratio of 21-to-1, making 61 percent of Florida 36
State University's offered classes having fewer than 20 37
students, and 38
WHEREAS, Florida State University is more popular than ever 39
among prospective first -time college students with a total of 40
66,000 applications received for admission to the 2021 summer 41
and fall semesters, resulting in one of the largest freshman 42
classes ever, made up of approximately 7,200 students, and 43
WHEREAS, Florida State University's 2021 freshman class is 44
one of the brightest and most diverse in school history, coming 45
from 66 Florida counties, all 50 states and the District of 46
Columbia, and 49 countries and is at the forefront of the 47
institution's exemplary accomplishments for the 2021 -2022 48

academic year with an average GPA of 4.3, average SAT score of 49
1310, and average ACT composite score of 29, and 50
WHEREAS, Florida State University is a top research 51
institution for producing Fulbright Scholars with 3 students 52
receiving awards in the 2021 -2022 academic year, and 53
WHEREAS, INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine recognized Florida 54
State University as a 2021 Diversity Champion for the sixth 55
consecutive year and awarded the Higher Education Excellence in 56
Diversity Award for the eighth consecutive year, an honor 57
awarded to schools w ho demonstrate a promise to uphold inclusion 58
and diversity, and 59
WHEREAS, the college experience continues to enrich the 60
lives of Florida State University students due to the long -61
standing tradition of promoting racial, ethnic, and cultural 62
diversity on its campus along with the aggressive recruitment of 63
diverse groups of students, NOW, THEREFORE, 64

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 66

That February 9, 2022, is designated as "FSU Day" in 69
Florida in recognition of Florida State University's 70
contribution as an outstanding institution of higher education. 71
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be 72
presented to Dr. Richard McCullough, the 16th president of 73
