HR 8045 2022 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hr8045-00 Page 1 of 3 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S House Resolution 1 A resolution acknowledging the remarkable 2 contributions made to the people of this state by 3 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and recognizing 4 February 20, 2022, as the 28th annual "Delta Days at 5 the Capitol." 6 7 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a private, 8 not-for-profit organization founded 109 years ago on January 13, 9 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University in Washington, 10 D.C., and 11 WHEREAS, in March of 1913, the founders of Delta Sigma 12 Theta Sorority, Inc., performed their first public act by 13 participating in the Woman Suffrage Procession in Washington, 14 D.C., demanding rights for women, including the right to vote, a 15 historic endeavor that transformed the role of women in the 16 democratic process, and 17 WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a sisterhood 18 of predominantly Black college -educated women committed to 19 implementing the sorority's mission by providing assistance and 20 support through established programs in communities throughout 21 the world in the areas of economic development, educational 22 development, physical and mental health, political awareness and 23 involvement, and international awareness and involvement, and 24 HR 8045 2022 CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hr8045-00 Page 2 of 3 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S WHEREAS, with more than 250,000 women initiated and more 25 than 900 chapters worldwide, 52 of which are located in Florida 26 and the Bahamas, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., 27 are pillars of the community and agents of change who serve in 28 many capacities, including as corporate and civic leaders, 29 productive public officials, acclaimed academicians, and 30 activists in their own right, and 31 WHEREAS, for the past 28 years, the Florida chapters of 32 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., have conducted "Delta Days at 33 the Capitol," during which members have the opportunity to 34 effect social change and public policy, advocate for social 35 justice, enhance their knowledge of the state's legislative 36 process, and influence the enactment of legislation of 37 particular interest to African Ame ricans and women, and 38 WHEREAS, under the leadership of Southern Regional Director 39 Deidra K. Diaz and Southern Regional Representative Kyrsten 40 Sheffield, members of the 52 chapters of Delta Sigma Theta 41 Sorority, Inc., now serving Florida and the Bahamas wi ll convene 42 virtually on February 20, 2022, to participate in the 28th 43 annual "Delta Days at the Capitol," and 44 WHEREAS, Representatives Fentrice Driskell, Michele K. 45 Rayner, Felicia Simone Robinson, and Patricia H.
