1616 WHEREAS, the Ukrainian Famine of 1932 -1933, known as the 5
1717 "Holodomor," meaning murder by starvation, resulted in the 6
1818 deaths of between seven and ten million Ukrainians, with a third 7
1919 of the victims being children under 10 years of age, and 8
2020 WHEREAS, Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and his totalitarian 9
2121 regime committed an act of genocide through the implementation 10
2222 of an engineered famine by confiscating land, crops, and 11
2323 livestock from the Ukrainian people, and 12
2424 WHEREAS, the Holodomor was specifically designed by the 13
2525 Soviet regime to force collectivization and punish ind ependent-14
2626 minded Ukrainians for their resistance to its economic, 15
2727 political, and social oppression, and 16
2828 WHEREAS, at the height of the Holodomor in 1933, an 17
2929 estimated 25,000 Ukrainians died each day as the Soviets 18
3030 continued to export Ukraine's crops to the rest of the world, 19

3232 WHEREAS, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, 21
3333 documents created during this time surfaced which detail the 22
3434 Soviet regime's actions and intent to destroy Ukraine's national 23
