1717 WHEREAS, April 10, 2022, marks the 43rd anniversary of the 6
1818 enactment of the Taiwan Relations Act, which codified in law the 7
1919 basis for continued commercial and cultural relations between 8
2020 the people of the United States and Taiwan , and 9
2121 WHEREAS, since Novemb er 1, 2012, Taiwan has been a member 10
2222 of the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP), which makes two -11
2323 way travel for business and tourism more convenient, reflecting 12
2424 the cooperation between the United States and Taiwan, and 13
2525 WHEREAS, the launch of FORMOSAT -7/COSMIC-2 on June 25, 14
2626 2019, a joint United States -Taiwan collaborative space mission 15
2727 of a constellation of six satellites designed to enhance the 16
2828 accuracy of atmospheric weather prediction, has demonstrated the 17
2929 mutual benefit born of the relations between this country and 18
3030 Taiwan, and 19
3131 WHEREAS, the first female president of Taiwan, elected in 20
3232 2016 and reelected for a second term on January 11, 2020, Dr. 21
3333 Tsai Ing-wen was welcomed to the State of Florida in June of 22
3434 2016, as were Speaker of Tainan City Council Kuo Hsin-liang and 23
3535 his delegation in February of 2020, further enhancing the 24
3636 bilateral relationship between Taiwan and this state, as well as 25 

4747 strengthening the common values Taiwan shares with this country, 26

4949 WHEREAS, Taiwan participates in internation al 28
5050 organizations, including its bid for observer status in the 29
5151 International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL); its 30
5252 involvement with the World Health Assembly (WHA), the 31
5353 International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and the United 32
5454 Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); and its 33
5555 membership status in both the Asia -Pacific Economic Cooperation 34
5656 (APEC) and the World Trade Organization (WTO), and participates, 35
5757 observes, and cooperates with over 50 international 36
5858 organizations in total, a nd 37
5959 WHEREAS, Taiwan is the United States' eighth largest 38
6060 trading partner as of November 2021 and the State of Florida's 39
6161 sixth largest trading partner in Asia, and 40
6262 WHEREAS, the economic bonds between the United States and 41
6363 Taiwan have continued to grow over the years, and 42
6464 WHEREAS, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the 43
6565 enactment of the sister state relationship shared between the 44
6666 State of Florida and Taiwan, and 45
6767 WHEREAS, several sister city relations exist between 46
6868 Florida and Taiwan, such as the relat ions between Miami-Dade 47
6969 County and New Taipei City, formerly Taipei County; the Port of 48
7070 Miami and the Port of Kaohsiung; the City of Orlando and Tainan 49

102102 Economic and Cultural Office in Miami and to the Executive 71
103103 Office of the Governor as a tangible token of the sentiments 72
