A resolution recognizing March 20, 2022, as "Persian 2
New Year Day" in the State of Florida, celebrating the 3
historical and cultural significance of Norooz, and 4
expressing appreciation for the contributions of 5
Iranian Americans. 6

WHEREAS, Norooz marks the traditional Persian New Year, 8
which has been celebrated for more than 3,000 years and dates 9
back to ancient Persia, and 10
WHEREAS, Norooz or "New Day" marks the arrival of spring 11
and is celebrated on the vernal equinox, and 12
WHEREAS, the creation of a Haft -seen table, a symbolic 13
spread of seven elements representing patience, love, fertility, 14
rebirth, protection, and affluence, is an important part of the 15
Norooz tradition, and 16
WHEREAS, a form of the vernal equinox celebration commonly 17
known as Norooz is celebrated by hundreds of millions of 18
Iranians and other peoples all over the world, including as 19
Novruz in Azerbaijan, Navruz in Uzbekistan, and Nowruz in 20
Afghanistan, as well as in the United States and other countries 21
in Central Asia, South Asia, Caucasus, Crimea, and Balkan 22
Regions, and 23

WHEREAS, Iranian Americans of all backgrounds celebrate 24
Norooz, including those with Baha'i, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, 25
Zoroastrian, and nonreligious backgrounds, and 26
WHEREAS, members of the Iranian American community have 27
made a lasting impact on the social and economic fabric of 28
Florida, including providing life -saving medical care, providing 29
opportunities for cultural exc hange and enrichment, contributing 30
to NASA's space program, and serving on the University of 31
Florida's Board of Trustees, and 32
WHEREAS, Norooz symbolizes a time of renewal and community, 33
it harkens the departure from the trials and tribulations of the 34
previous year, and brings hope for the New Year, and 35
WHEREAS, many Iranian Americans maintain strong ties to the 36
people of Iran, and 37
WHEREAS, many Iranian Americans desire to see a peaceful, 38
prosperous, and democratic Iran that respects human rights, NOW, 39

That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes March 45
20, 2022, as "Persian New Year Day" in the State of Florida and 46
