Department of Health and its agents to require 4
suppliers of water to give public notice of water 5
problems and corrective measures through text messages 6
to owners or occupants of affected residences; 7
requiring specified information to be included in the 8
notice by text message; providing an effective dat e. 9

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11

Section 1. Paragraph (j) of subsection (2) of section 13
381.0062, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 14
381.0062 Supervision; private and certain public water 15
systems.— 16
(2) SUPERVISION.—The department and its agents shall have 17
general supervision and control over all private water systems, 18
multifamily water systems, and public water systems not covered 19
or included in the Florida Safe Drinking Water Act (part VI of 20
chapter 403), and ove r those aspects of the public water supply 21
program for which it has the duties and responsibilities 22
provided for in part VI of chapter 403. The department shall: 23
(j) Require suppliers of water to give public notice of 24
water problems and corrective measur es under the conditions 25

specified by rule of the department . Such notice must also be 26
provided by text message to each owner or occupant of affected 27
residences in which health hazards exist due to contamination 28
from pollutants or hazardous substances. The notice by text 29
message must include the date of the findings of contamination, 30
the levels of contamination found, and the date of restoration 31
of potable water. 32
Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023. 33
