Section 166.0494, Florida Statutes, is created 14 to read: 15 166.0494 Chiefs of police; termination. — 16 (1) A municipality may not terminate a ch ief of police 17 without providing the chief of police written notice of his or 18 her termination. 19 (2) After providing a chief of police written notice of 20 his or her termination, a municipality must allow the chief of 21 police to appear at the next regularly sc heduled public meeting 22 of the governing body of the municipality and provide a full and 23 complete response to his or her termination at the meeting. 24 (3) An employment contract between a municipality and a 25 ENROLLED CS/CS/HB 935 2023 Legislature CODING: Words stricken are deletions; words underlined are additions. hb0935-03-er Page 2 of 2 F L O R I D A H O U S E O F R E P R E S E N T A T I V E S chief of police may not waive or modify the requir ements of this 26 section or include a nondisclosure clause that prohibits a chief 27 of police from responding to his or her termination as 28 authorized by this section. 29 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2023. 30
