2222 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 9

2424 Section 1. Section 790.176, Florida Statutes, is created 11
2525 to read: 12
2626 790.176 Storage of firearms in motor vehicles or vessels. — 13
2727 (1) As used in this section, the term: 14
2828 (a) "Motor vehicle" has the same meaning as in s. 15
2929 320.01(1). 16
3030 (b) "Trunk" means the fully enclosed and locked main 17
3131 storage compartment of a motor vehicle that is not accessible 18
3232 from the passenger compartment, but does not include any 19
3333 compartment that has a window; the bed of a pickup truck; or the 20
3434 rear area of a hatchback, station wagon -type motor vehicle, or 21
3535 sport utility motor vehicle. 22
3636 (c) "Vessel" has the s ame meaning as in s. 327.02. 23
3737 (2) A person who stores or leaves, in a motor vehicle or 24
3838 vessel under his or her control, a firearm, whether loaded or 25

5252 motor vehicle or vessel, shall keep the f irearm from ordinary 27
5353 observation locked within the trunk, a utility or glove box, or 28
5454 a locked container securely affixed to the motor vehicle or 29

5656 (3) A person who violates subsection (2) commits a 31
5757 misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as p rovided in s. 32
5858 775.082 or s. 775.083. 33
5959 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 34
