21-Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 8

23- Section 1. This act may be cited as the "Evin B. Hartsell 10
24-Act." 11
25- Section 2. Paragraph (a) of subsection (2 ) of section 12
26-1003.4205, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 13
27- 1003.4205 Disability history and awareness instruction. 14
28- (2)(a) During this 2 -week period, students may be provided 15
29-intensive instruction to expand their knowledge, understanding, 16
30-and awareness of individuals with disabilities, the history of 17
31-disability, and the disability rights movement. Disability 18
32-history may include the events and timelines of the development 19
33-and evolution of services to, and the civil rights of, 20
34-individuals with disabili ties. Disability history may also 21
35-include the contributions of specific individuals with 22
36-disabilities, including the contributions of acknowledged 23
37-national leaders. The instruction must include the following 24
38-material: 25

52- a. Conversations on bullying. Such conversations may 27
53-address what students should do if they are being bullied; what 28
54-they should do if they see someone being bullied; why bullying 29
55-is not the victim's fault; what different types of bullying look 30
56-like; the possibility that a friend could be a bully; or the 31
57-school's antibullying policy. 32
58- b. Activities to teach about physical disabilities. 33
59- 2. For grades 4 through 6, information about autism 34
60-spectrum disorder. 35

63- 4. For grades 10 through 12, information on different 38
64-types of learning and intellectual disabilities. 39
65- Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 40

69+ (II) Activities that demonstrate what life with an autism 44
70+spectrum disorder is like. Such activities may include requiring 45
71+students to attempt to communicate with one another without 46

74+ (I) Information about hearing impairments. 49
75+ (II) Activities that demonstrate what life with hearing 50

89+students to wear ear plugs and attempt to listen as the teacher 52
90+reads aloud while noise plays in the background or requiring 53
91+students to attempt to read one another's lips. 54

93+ (I) Information on different types of learning and 56
94+intellectual disabilities. 57
95+ (II) Activities that demonstrate what life with a learning 58
96+or intellectual disability is like. Such activities may include 59
97+requiring students to read sentences written backwards. 60
98+ 2. A district school board may consult with the Evin B. 61
99+Hartsell Foundation to further develop the curricula in 62
100+subparagraph 1. 63
101+ Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2025. 64
