1717 WHEREAS, the national, month-long celebration known as 6
1818 "Hispanic Heritage Month" is dedicated to the culture, history, 7
1919 and contributions of Latin American and Hispanic countries , and 8
2020 WHEREAS, the celebration begins on September 15 to coincide 9
2121 with the national independence days of Guatemala, Honduras , El 10
2222 Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica , and 11
2323 WHEREAS, the national, month-long celebration includes 12
2424 festivals, art shows, conferences, and community gatherings 13
2525 across the United States , and 14
2626 WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Floridians are the second -15
2727 largest racial and ethnic group in this state, making up 2 7.4 16
2828 percent of the population , and 17
2929 WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Floridians contribute 18
3030 approximately $90 billion to this state's economy in labor and 19
3131 entrepreneurship, and have a spending power of approxima tely 20
3232 $66.4 billion, and 21
3333 WHEREAS, there are many influential Hispanic and Latino 22
3434 Americans, including civil rights activist and co -founder of the 23
3535 National Farm Workers Association, Caesar Chavez; the first 24
3636 Hispanic-American woman to travel to space and be inducted into 25 
