A resolution recognizing September 15 to October 15, 2 
2025, as "Latin and Hispanic Heritage Month" in 3 
Florida. 4 
 5 
 WHEREAS, the national, month-long celebration known as 6 
"Hispanic Heritage Month" is dedicated to the culture, history, 7 
and contributions of Latin American and Hispanic countries , and 8 
 WHEREAS, the celebration begins on September 15 to coincide 9 
with the national independence days of Guatemala, Honduras , El 10 
Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica , and 11 
 WHEREAS, the national, month-long celebration includes 12 
festivals, art shows, conferences, and community gatherings 13 
across the United States , and 14 
 WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Floridians are the second -15 
largest racial and ethnic group in this state, making up 2 7.4 16 
percent of the population , and 17 
 WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Floridians contribute 18 
approximately $90 billion to this state's economy in labor and 19 
entrepreneurship, and have a spending power of approxima tely 20 
$66.4 billion, and 21 
 WHEREAS, there are many influential Hispanic and Latino 22 
Americans, including civil rights activist and co -founder of the 23 
National Farm Workers Association, Caesar Chavez; the first 24 
Hispanic-American woman to travel to space and be inducted into 25  

the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame, Ellen Ochoa; and the 26 
first Hispanic-American woman to serve as a member of the United 27 
States Supreme Court, Justice Sonia Sotomayor , and 28 
 WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino Americans have made a lasting 29 
impact in Florida socially, culturally, and economically, 30 
including traveling to space; being elected to public offices 31 
such as Mayor, Lieutenant Governor, and Congress; and becoming 32 
prominent singers, film stars, and athletes, and 33 
 WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latin heritage is an integral part of 34 
United States and Florida history , NOW, THEREFORE, 35

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 37 
Florida: 38 
 39 
 That September 15 to October 15, 2025, is recognized as 40 
"Latin and Hispanic Heritage Month" in Florida to acknowledge 41 
and celebrate all of the contributions of Hispanic and Latin 42 
Floridians. 43
