18	18	WHEREAS, the State of Florida and Japan share a rapidly 7
19	19	growing political and economic relationship, characterized by 8
20	20	mutual benefits that contribute to the continued partnership 9
21	21	between the two regions, and 10
22	22	WHEREAS, the historic ti es between Florida and Japan date 11
23	23	back to the early 20th century, beginning with the settlement of 12
24	24	the Yamato Colony by Japanese immigrants in Delray Beach, which 13
25	25	is now the renowned Morikami Museum and Japanese Garden, and 14
26	26	WHEREAS, despite ups and downs in economic relations over 15
27	27	the years, today Japan is Florida's second largest source of 16
28	28	imports and a significant investor in the state's economy and is 17
29	29	the largest source of foreign investment in the United States, 18
30	30	and 19
31	31	WHEREAS, Governor Ron DeSantis, lea ding a high-profile 20
32	32	trade mission, visited Japan in April 2023, reinforcing 21
33	33	diplomatic and economic dialogues between Florida and Japanese 22
34	34	officials and business leaders, and 23
35	35	WHEREAS, in October 2023, Florida hosted another successful 24
36	36	trade mission to Jap an, during which Secretary of State Cord 25 

68	68	of Japanese business, trade, and cultural cooperation with the 47
69	69	State of Florida and the diplomatic, cultural, and business ties 48
