House Resolution 1 
A resolution recognizing the importance of Japanese 2 
business, trade, and cultural cooperation with the 3 
State of Florida and the diplomatic, business, and 4 
cultural ties with Japan. 5 
 6 
 WHEREAS, the State of Florida and Japan share a rapidly 7 
growing political and economic relationship, characterized by 8 
mutual benefits that contribute to the continued partnership 9 
between the two regions, and 10 
 WHEREAS, the historic ti es between Florida and Japan date 11 
back to the early 20th century, beginning with the settlement of 12 
the Yamato Colony by Japanese immigrants in Delray Beach, which 13 
is now the renowned Morikami Museum and Japanese Garden, and 14 
 WHEREAS, despite ups and downs in economic relations over 15 
the years, today Japan is Florida's second largest source of 16 
imports and a significant investor in the state's economy and is 17 
the largest source of foreign investment in the United States, 18 
and 19 
 WHEREAS, Governor Ron DeSantis, lea ding a high-profile 20 
trade mission, visited Japan in April 2023, reinforcing 21 
diplomatic and economic dialogues between Florida and Japanese 22 
officials and business leaders, and 23 
 WHEREAS, in October 2023, Florida hosted another successful 24 
trade mission to Jap an, during which Secretary of State Cord 25  

Byrd and Japan's Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs 26 
Masahiro Komura signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to enhance 27 
economic and trade collaboration between the two regions, and 28 
 WHEREAS, in December 2023 , Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella 29 
Levine Cava led a trade mission to Japan, culminating in the 30 
signing of a Sister Port Agreement between Port of Miami and the 31 
Port of Yokohama, further solidifying the maritime and economic 32 
connections between the two reg ions, and 33 
 WHEREAS, these recent exchanges and agreements underscore 34 
the accelerating momentum in Florida -Japan relations, 35 
highlighting the significant strides made in business, trade, 36 
and cultural cooperation over the past year, and 37 
 WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature recognizes the political, 38 
economic, and cultural ties between Florida and Japan, ensuring 39 
continued collaboration and fostering long -term benefits for 40 
both regions, NOW, THEREFORE, 41

Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of 43 
Florida: 44

 That the House of Representatives recognizes the importance 46 
of Japanese business, trade, and cultural cooperation with the 47 
State of Florida and the diplomatic, cultural, and business ties 48 
with Japan. 49
