1616 Honoring the life and memory of Betty Camp Godwin; and for other purposes.

1818 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
1919 with the passing of Betty Camp Godwin on November 24, 2023; and3
2020 WHEREAS, Betty Camp Godwin was born on June 19, 1927, in Dallas, Georgia, a beloved4
2121 daughter of Nicodemus and Joetta Brown Camp; and5
2222 WHEREAS, a life-time resident of Marietta, she enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career as6
2323 part of Lockheed Martin, where she served as production manager; and7
2424 WHEREAS, she was further involved in state and local politics for many years as a longtime8
2525 supporter of the Democratic Party and as a friend and advisor to many party chairs, including9
2626 Guy Drexinger and David Wilkerson, as well as to Senator Steve Thompson, Congressman10
2727 Buddy Darden, and Governor Roy Barnes; and11
2828 WHEREAS, Betty Camp Godwin was blessed with three remarkable children, Ralph Jr.,12
2929 Michael, and Ricky; one wonderful grandson, Jason; and one outstanding great-grandson,13

3333 WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern

3535 for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to16
3636 her family and friends were admired by others; and17
3737 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation18
3838 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,19
3939 she made this world a better place in which to live; and20
4040 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Betty Camp Godwin will long be21
4141 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who22
4242 had the great fortune of knowing her.23
4343 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
4444 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Betty Camp Godwin and25
4545 express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.26
4646 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27
4747 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the28
4848 family of Betty Camp Godwin.29
