A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Betty Camp Godwin; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Betty Camp Godwin on November 24, 2023; and3
WHEREAS, Betty Camp Godwin was born on June 19, 1927, in Dallas, Georgia, a beloved4
daughter of Nicodemus and Joetta Brown Camp; and5
WHEREAS, a life-time resident of Marietta, she enjoyed a distinguished 38-year career as6
part of Lockheed Martin, where she served as production manager; and7
WHEREAS, she was further involved in state and local politics for many years as a longtime8
supporter of the Democratic Party and as a friend and advisor to many party chairs, including9
Guy Drexinger and David Wilkerson, as well as to Senator Steve Thompson, Congressman10
Buddy Darden, and Governor Roy Barnes; and11
WHEREAS, Betty Camp Godwin was blessed with three remarkable children, Ralph Jr.,12
Michael, and Ricky; one wonderful grandson, Jason; and one outstanding great-grandson,13
John; and14

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern

for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to16
her family and friends were admired by others; and17
WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation18
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,19
she made this world a better place in which to live; and20
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Betty Camp Godwin will long be21
remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who22
had the great fortune of knowing her.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Betty Camp Godwin and25
express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the28
family of Betty Camp Godwin.29
