A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending Melanie Hammet on her outstanding public service as the

mayor of Pine Lake; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Melanie Hammet has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the3
vital role that she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to the welfare4
of the citizens of Pine Lake, Georgia; and5
WHEREAS, she has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of her time,6
talents, and energy toward the betterment of her community and state, as evidenced by her7
distinguished service as the mayor of Pine Lake; and8
WHEREAS, during her impressive tenure, she has played a pivotal role in creating9
innovative policies, programming, and initiatives, including the rewriting of local zoning for10
the greater protection of the city's environment; and11
WHEREAS, she has further been recognized as a trailblazer by her peers and constituents12
for her efforts to establish the Municipal Arts Panel (MAP), the MAPMakers Grant, the13
Stewards of Environmental Education and Design panel, and the Kids Town Hall; and14

WHEREAS, Melanie Hammet's significant organizational and leadership talents, remarkable
15
patience and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the citizens of16
this state have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and associates; and17
WHEREAS, although Pine Lake represents DeKalb County's smallest city, her exemplary18
work demonstrates the significance of community identity and the inherent strength of19
interconnected communities; and20
WHEREAS, she has served with honor and distinction, and her vision and unyielding21
commitment to excellence will be sorely missed upon the occasion of her retirement; and22
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this23
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25
the members of this body recognize and commend Melanie Hammet for her efficient,26
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia; congratulate her27
upon the grand occasion of her retirement; and extend the most sincere best wishes for28
continued health and happiness.29
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to31
Melanie Hammet.32
