23 LC 112 1728 Senate Resolution 14EX By: Senators Davenport of the 44th, Tate of the 38th, James of the 35th, Seay of the 34th and Butler of the 55th A RESOLUTION Commending and congratulating Ms. Lois Smith-Dixon; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Ms. Lois Smith-Dixon was born on December 10, 1924, in Lovejoy, Georgia,2 and this year she enjoys the delightful distinction of celebrating her 99th birthday; and3 WHEREAS, the devotion, patience, and understanding she has demonstrated have provided4 the foundation of success from which her family members have developed and flourished,5 as evidenced by her six wonderful children, 18 outstanding grandchildren, 17 exceptional6 great-grandchildren, and 17 remarkable great-great-grandchildren; and7 WHEREAS, Ms. Lois Smith-Dixon has long been an integral part of her community's8 spiritual life, having joined fellowship with Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the early 1950s9 under the leadership of the late Rev. H. M. Alexander; and10 WHEREAS, her dedication to her faith and her service within the church community has11 been marked by unwavering commitment, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to the12 well-being of her fellow congregants; and13 S. R. 14EX - 1 - 23 LC 112 1728 WHEREAS, Ms. Lois Smith-Dixon possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through 14 experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many15 challenges of life; and16 WHEREAS, a resident of Jonesboro, Georgia, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with17 an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and18 WHEREAS, she has witnessed a dramatic change in the world over the course of her19 lifetime, and we salute her contribution to its progress through her tireless efforts on behalf20 of her community and extended family; and21 WHEREAS, by the example Ms. Lois Smith-Dixon has made of her life, she makes this22 world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately23 recognized during this very special and memorable time.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 commend Ms. Lois Smith-Dixon for her unselfish, dedicated, and loving service to the26 members of her family and community; congratulate her on the remarkable occasion of her27 99th birthday; and extend their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Ms. Lois30 Smith-Dixon.31 S.
