6	6	Expressing support for the Nation of Israel and the Jewish people as well as condemning
7	7	1
8	8	terroristic attacks upon the Nation of Israel and antisemitic acts and speech in the United2
9	9	States; and for other purposes.3
10	10	WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, the terrorist organization Hamas launched a sudden and4
11	11	violent attack on the Nation of Israel, killing and wounding thousands, including women and5
12	12	children, and taking numerous civilians as hostages; and6
13	13	WHEREAS, American citizens were among those killed in the attack; and7
14	14	WHEREAS, the United States, having been the first country to recognize Israel as an8
15	15	independent nation and as Israel's principal ally, has enjoyed a close and mutually beneficial9
16	16	relationship with Israel and its people; and10
17	17	WHEREAS, the Senate has recognized numerous times that there is a special bond of11
18	18	friendship between the citizens of Georgia and Israel that inspires the people of Georgia to12
19	19	stand with the people of Israel in solidarity; and13

22	22	WHEREAS, Georgia proudly serves as the home of the Israeli Consulate General to the
23	23	14
24	24	Southeastern United States; and15
25	25	WHEREAS, the Jewish people and their allies have been the subject of brutal violence, sneak16
26	26	attacks, acts of genocide, and terroristic threats throughout the ages of history to the present17
27	27	day; and18
28	28	WHEREAS, the theocratic regime in the Islamic Republic of Iran regularly espouses hatred19
29	29	and prejudice toward Jews and the people of Israel; has called for the destruction of Israel20
30	30	numerous times since the Islamic revolution in Iran 44 years ago; and sponsors acts of21
31	31	terrorism targeted at Jews, Jewish institutions, and allies of the Jewish community in Israel22
32	32	and around the world; and23
33	33	WHEREAS, violent and threatening acts against Jewish people and institutions continue in24
34	34	the United States and the State of Georgia; and25
35	35	WHEREAS, the recent attacks on Israel and antisemitic stereotypes, attitudes, and speech26
36	36	have been encouraged, praised, and justified by students and professors at colleges and27
37	37	universities across the United States in the weeks following the October 7 attacks on Israel,28
38	38	with one now-suspended professor calling the attacks "exhilarating" and "energizing";29
39	39	another praising Israel's attackers with the words "they got walls we got gliders"; and another30
40	40	denouncing Israelis as "pigs" and "savages"; and31
41	41	WHEREAS, such attitudes and speech perpetuate hatred against Israel and the Jewish people,32
42	42	dehumanize the victims of antisemitic violence and discrimination, excuse shameful acts of33
43	43	terrorism motivated by antisemitism, encourage violence against Jews and Jewish34
44	44	institutions, and reflect ignorance of the constant threat perpetrated against Israel and the35

47	47	Jewish people by terrorist organizations like Hamas and state sponsors of terrorism like Iran;

50	50	WHEREAS, law enforcement officials across the United States have warned Americans to38
51	51	remain vigilant against heightened risks of acts of violence in the United States inspired by39
52	52	the October 7 attack against Israel and such dangerous rhetoric.40
53	53	NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body41
54	54	condemn the terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the support of42
55	55	terroristic organizations and acts by Iran.43
56	56	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body denounce hateful, ignorant,44
57	57	and dangerous rhetoric in the United States and abroad that suggests Israel bears45
58	58	responsibility for the brutal attacks on its people and homeland.46
59	59	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend college and47
60	60	university administrations that have taken disciplinary action against faculty, staff, and48
61	61	students who have espoused hateful rhetoric or made antisemitic threats of violence against49
62	62	Jews and the Nation of Israel and call upon other college and university administrations to50
63	63	do likewise.51
64	64	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body unequivocally acknowledge52
65	65	that Israel has the right to exist and defend itself and that the Jewish people have the right to53
66	66	live in peace and safety in their homes and communities and whatever country they reside.54

69	69	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage strong and

71	71	sustained efforts by Congress, the President of the United States, and other world leaders to56
72	72	support and defend Israel and the Jewish people.57
73	73	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed58
74	74	to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Consul59
75	75	General of Israel to the Southeastern United States. 60
