A RESOLUTION
Expressing support for the Nation of Israel and the Jewish people as well as condemning

terroristic attacks upon the Nation of Israel and antisemitic acts and speech in the United2
States; and for other purposes.3
WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, the terrorist organization Hamas launched a sudden and4
violent attack on the Nation of Israel, killing and wounding thousands, including women and5
children, and taking numerous civilians as hostages; and6
WHEREAS, American citizens were among those killed in the attack; and7
WHEREAS, the United States, having been the first country to recognize Israel as an8
independent nation and as Israel's principal ally, has enjoyed a close and mutually beneficial9
relationship with Israel and its people; and10
WHEREAS, the Senate has recognized numerous times that there is a special bond of11
friendship between the citizens of Georgia and Israel that inspires the people of Georgia to12
stand with the people of Israel in solidarity; and13

WHEREAS, Georgia proudly serves as the home of the Israeli Consulate General to the
14
Southeastern United States; and15
WHEREAS, the Jewish people and their allies have been the subject of brutal violence, sneak16
attacks, acts of genocide, and terroristic threats throughout the ages of history to the present17
day; and18
WHEREAS, the theocratic regime in the Islamic Republic of Iran regularly espouses hatred19
and prejudice toward Jews and the people of Israel; has called for the destruction of Israel20
numerous times since the Islamic revolution in Iran 44 years ago; and sponsors acts of21
terrorism targeted at Jews, Jewish institutions, and allies of the Jewish community in Israel22
and around the world; and23
WHEREAS, violent and threatening acts against Jewish people and institutions continue in24
the United States and the State of Georgia; and25
WHEREAS, the recent attacks on Israel and antisemitic stereotypes, attitudes, and speech26
have been encouraged, praised, and justified by students and professors at colleges and27
universities across the United States in the weeks following the October 7 attacks on Israel,28
with one now-suspended professor calling the attacks "exhilarating" and "energizing";29
another praising Israel's attackers with the words "they got walls we got gliders"; and another30
denouncing Israelis as "pigs" and "savages"; and31
WHEREAS, such attitudes and speech perpetuate hatred against Israel and the Jewish people,32
dehumanize the victims of antisemitic violence and discrimination, excuse shameful acts of33
terrorism motivated by antisemitism, encourage violence against Jews and Jewish34
institutions, and reflect ignorance of the constant threat perpetrated against Israel and the35

Jewish people by terrorist organizations like Hamas and state sponsors of terrorism like Iran;

WHEREAS, law enforcement officials across the United States have warned Americans to38
remain vigilant against heightened risks of acts of violence in the United States inspired by39
the October 7 attack against Israel and such dangerous rhetoric.40
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body41
condemn the terrorist attacks by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, and the support of42
terroristic organizations and acts by Iran.43
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body denounce hateful, ignorant,44
and dangerous rhetoric in the United States and abroad that suggests Israel bears45
responsibility for the brutal attacks on its people and homeland.46
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body commend college and47
university administrations that have taken disciplinary action against faculty, staff, and48
students who have espoused hateful rhetoric or made antisemitic threats of violence against49
Jews and the Nation of Israel and call upon other college and university administrations to50
do likewise.51
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body unequivocally acknowledge52
that Israel has the right to exist and defend itself and that the Jewish people have the right to53
live in peace and safety in their homes and communities and whatever country they reside.54

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage strong and
55
sustained efforts by Congress, the President of the United States, and other world leaders to56
support and defend Israel and the Jewish people.57
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed58
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the Consul59
General of Israel to the Southeastern United States. 60
