A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Article 6 of Chapter 11 of Title 15 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated,

relating to delinquency relative to the juvenile code, so as to enact the "Parental Waiver Save2
My Young Life Act"; to provide for parental waiver for participation in diversion programs;3
to provide for related matters;  to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.4
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:5
SECTION 1.6
This Act shall be known and may be cited as the "Parental Waiver Save My Young Life7
Act."8
SECTION 2.9
Article 6 of Chapter 11 of Title 15 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to10
delinquency relative to the juvenile code, is amended by revising paragraphs (2) and (6) of11
subsection (a) of Code Section 15-11-601, relating to disposition of delinquent act, as12
follows:13
"(2)  An order requiring such child and his or her parent, guardian, or legal custodian to14
participate in counseling or in counsel and advice.  In cases where the court has been

unable to make contact on at least eight occasions within a 90 day period with such16
child's parent, guardian, or legal custodian, the court shall find that parental, guardian, or17
custodial consent has been waived and may order such child for rehabilitation,18
counseling, and in counsel and advice. Such rehabilitation, counseling, and counsel and19
advice may be provided by the court, court personnel, probation officers, community20
supervision officers, professional counselors or social workers, psychologists, physicians,21
physician assistants, qualified volunteers, or appropriate public, private, or volunteer22
agencies and shall be designed to assist in deterring future delinquent acts or other23
conduct or conditions which would be harmful to such child or society;"24
"(6) An order requiring that such child perform community service in a manner25
prescribed by the court and under the supervision of an individual or rehabilitation,26
counseling, and in counsel and advice program designated by the court;"27
SECTION 3.28
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.29
